The University of Lausanne is recruiting a PhD candidate and graduate teaching assistant (start Feb 2026).

Duration: 1 year (renewable, up to 5 years total)

Location: University of Lausanne, Institute of Social Sciences (ISS)

Position overview

The position combines doctoral research with teaching and research assistance.

  • 50% dissertation work in the field of sociology of work and education.

  • 50% teaching and research support, including assistance with courses, participation in projects, and contributions to the academic life of the institute.

Candidate profile

  • Master’s degree in the social sciences (e.g. sociology, educational sciences, economics, psychology) with strong academic results.

  • Interest in empirical research on vocational training, labour markets, networks, educational choices, and social inequalities.

  • Experience with, or readiness to acquire, quantitative methods and statistical software (e.g. R, Python, Stata).

  • Strong academic writing and presentation skills in English.

  • Independent, creative, and analytical working style.

  • Good knowledge of English (research) and French (teaching support).
