Join Our New SNF Project on Quality of Politicians

Open Position Basel/Geneva

Two PhD positions and one Postdoc opening in Basel and Geneva

The University of Basel and the University of Geneva are recruiting two PhD candidates (one in Basel, one in Geneva) and one Postdoctoral researcher (Geneva) for the Swiss National Science Foundation project “Electoral choice: Which role does legislators’ quality play?”. The project, led by Prof. Stefanie Bailer (Basel) and Prof. Nathalie Giger (Geneva), investigates how voters evaluate the quality of politicians and how these assessments shape electoral behaviour.

The four-year research agenda combines surveys, survey experiments, and text-as-data methods to develop a comprehensive index of MP quality and to understand which dimensions of quality voters value most. Both PhD positions offer the opportunity to pursue an independent doctoral dissertation within the project, while the Postdoc role includes leading data collection, conducting quantitative analyses, and contributing to publications.

Application deadline for all positions: 15 December 2025
Interviews will take place in January 2026
Start date: 1 March 2026 (or by agreement)

Further details on qualifications, responsibilities, and application processes can be found via the links in the official job postings provided in the document.
