Intern at swisspeace (100%) – Dealing with the Past Program

Starting date: 1 February 2026 or by agreement
Duration: 6 months
Gross salary: CHF 1,500 per month
Place of work: Basel, Switzerland

The peace research institute swisspeace is offering an internship within its Dealing with the Past (DwP) Program. The program supports governmental and non-governmental actors in developing, implementing, and evaluating initiatives that address legacies of conflict and promote reconciliation. It also provides training opportunities and connects research and policy through projects, conferences, publications, and teaching.

The DwP team operates in a self-organized structure across several project groups.

Main Tasks

  • Administrative and logistical support for the Dealing with the Past Dialogues organized by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with swisspeace (including on-site presence during 11–20 May 2026).
  • Support in organizing courses, conferences, workshops, and roundtables.
  • Possible contributions to projects and mandates through desk and literature research, as well as drafting of proposals and reports.

Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in international relations, social sciences, or a related field (higher degrees will not be considered).
  • Excellent command of English and German (spoken and written); Spanish is an asset.
  • Cultural sensitivity, reliability, and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, even under pressure.
  • Excellent IT skills (MS Office, especially Excel and Word; social media and online platforms).
  • Valid driver’s license (category B).
